In a statement released on Monday (July 22), Estée Lauder Companies has said that Peter Hawkings is leaving Tom Ford. He had been the creative director since 2023. According to the firm, a successor will be announced “in due course”.

Hawkings and Tom Ford worked closely for over twenty years including him as Senior Vice President of Tom Ford Menswear which he helped launch it with Ford in 2006.

Peter Hawking’s first show was dedicated to Tom Ford’s golden era as Gucci’s creative director in the late nineties. The runway featured leather micro-shorts, hipster mini-skirts, also ruffled blouses with plunging necklines.

Following the fall-winter 2024 ready-to-wear season, Hawkings presented his second collection in late February. Military-inspired peacoats, furry bombers, and leather trenches were included in the outerwear section of this line as well as a number of smokings and evening dresses.

Hawkings’ collections did not only stand out for their attention to detail but also stuck to Tom Ford’s sophisticated and minimalist style. At the same time, some critics argued that they had been too careful while interpreting sexy fashion. In fact, Zegna has been a long-standing partner of this brand since 2006 when he first granted a license to them for producing men’s wear under his name.

In September, the brand will unveil its spring-summer 2025 collection in Milan at its showroom along with its new creative director yet to be announced.
