Several actors will be attending Cannes for the first time this year; they might want to make a statement with their attire. Jennie Kim, a member of Blackpink, will make her first appearance on the red carpet to promote her first acting role in the upcoming Sam Levinson series “The Idol,” which will make its festival debut next week.
Another anticipated newcomer is rising star Rachel Sennott, who made her name with the independent film “Shiva Baby” (2020) and A24’s dark comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies” (2022).
Fashion in these settings is a highly charged form of expression. Johnny Depp made his first Cannes appearance on Tuesday after his high-profile defamation lawsuit with his ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022 (a Virginia jury found both parties guilty of the defamation), Depp’s polarising outfit included a low-key black tuxedo, a high-neck dress shirt, and blue-tinted spectacles. After all, Cannes has a reputation for producing mesmerizing style moments. Diana, Princess of Wales, wore a Catherine Walker gown in 1987; Madonna wore a Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra in 1991; and Amal Clooney wore a bright Atelier Versace gown in 2016. Model Bella Hadid made headlines with her 2021 Schiaparelli Couture gown and gold breastplate that resembled a lung.

This year, Michael Douglas received the Honorary Palme d’Or. The actor traveled to France with his daughter Carys Zeta Douglas and his wife and coworker Catherine Zeta-Jones. Catherine chose the same brand as young Carys, who wore a white lace dress and a high hairdo and went for a femme fatale style in several shades of red (including eye makeup) by Elie Saab.
Uma Thurman, wearing a Christian Dior piece of powdered satin with Old Hollywood vibes and a purple maxi stole and Chopard jewelry, walked the catwalk beside her son Levon. Elle Fanning was the one who was most admired. The actress has worn many stunning and elegant gowns by Rodarte, Vivienne Westwood, and Dior since she first appeared on the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in 2016 to promote The Neon Demon. Still, this time she wore a princess look by Alexander McQueen with Cartier jewelry.

Flashes fell on Naomi, dressed in a Celine gown coated in glitter, and Alessandra Ambrosio, also wearing a bright purple sequenced Elie Saab gown with a matching hat. The Skyline asymmetrical necklace, adorned with 128 rare bezel-cut spinels that fade from warm scarlet to light blue, and the matching earrings with 12 spinels, both from Pomellato’s new Haute Joaillerie collection, completed the supermodel’s ensemble.
Helen Mirren, dressed as the Blue Fairy, won the prize for the most outrageous appearance (which quickly went viral). The British actress wore a violet-blue dress by Del Core. She accessorized it with a hairdo inspired by the eighteenth century and resembled Marie Antoinette’s famous pouf from the movie Jeanne Du Barry. To enhance the dramatic effect of her costume, Helen colored her hair light blue, sky blue, and violet blue for the event.
