New York City is set to host an extraordinary exhibition, “MANGA in New York presented by Ginza Sony Park Project,” marking a momentous fusion of authentic Japanese Manga art with cutting-edge technology. The event signifies the first international extension of the Ginza Sony Park Project and is slated to captivate audiences from October 27th to November 5th, 2023, at Studio 525, located in the city’s vibrant Chelsea neighborhood.
Visitors of the exhibition will embark on an immersive journey through six ingeniously crafted zones, each reflecting intrinsic themes of Sony’s Purpose & Values, such as “Pioneer,” “Dreams,” and “Diversity.” A cadre of prolific Japanese Manga artists, animators, and illustrators have collaborated to forge original Manga narratives, each embodying one of these themes, cultivating a realm where artistry intertwines seamlessly with innovation.
The exhibition paves the way for a novel Manga reading experience, incorporating Sony’s revolutionary technologies such as the “Tensor ValveTM” odorant control technology, immersing attendees in a symphony of scents that resonate with the Manga’s ambiance. Furthermore, the “Active Slate” with Haptics, integrated into the flooring, amplifies the scientific allure of Manga, ensuring a dynamic and engaging encounter for visitors.
Alongside the technological marvels, the event boasts an array of engaging activities, including an exclusive animation workshop for children and a live drawing performance by the globally renowned Manga artist, Katsuya Terada. The workshop, spearheaded by Director/Animator Masanobu Hiraoka, offers young enthusiasts a hands-on experience in animation creation and an insightful glance into the Manga conception process.
To magnify the event’s Japanese essence, a specialized vending machine offering “MANGA-CAN” drinks will be available, allowing attendees to indulge in beverages uniquely labeled with scenes from the featured Manga series, highlighting a harmonious blend of culture and creativity.
The “MANGA in New York presented by Ginza Sony Park Project” exhibition emerges as a celebration of Manga’s cultural majesty, intensified by the flair of technological brilliance, promising a rich and diverse experience for art and technology enthusiasts alike.
