All you need to know about the upcoming fashion series on Disney+

Balenciaga is getting its own show on Disney+ in 2024. The story of how the Spanish brand created in 1917 became one of the most desired labels in the world is told from the part where the stylist arrives in Paris, 20 years later.

Disney+ newest show about fashion starts with Cristóbal Balenciaga making his way through the Parisian haute couture. The stylist and namesake founder of the Spanish brand was born in 1985 and initiated his career in a small atelier in San Sebastian, creating his own label in 1917 (in the middle of World War I) after gaining popularity and dressing important figures such as Queen Maria Christina of Austria and María de las Mercedes, Princess of Asturias.

The Spanish Civil War made Cristóbal leave his country and move to Paris in 1936. Located on Georges V Avenue, Balenciaga’s maison is mostly influenced by the legacy of its founder, “Infanta” dresses inspired by the art of Diego Velázquez.

In the ’70s Balenciaga lost his popularity due to ready-to-wear ascension, leaving Paris and going back to his hometown, Getaria in Spain.
