The new creative director delves into the heritage of the Italian label and expresses his passion for Eighties fashion.
After Alessandro Michele left Gucci in 2022, Sabato de Sarno was appointed as the new Creative Director of the Italian label. Launching Milan Men’s Fall/Winter 2024 Fashion Week this Friday (12), Sabato de Sarno is presenting his first menswear collection as Gucci’s head.
The Neapolitan designer previously showcased a women’s collection for the Spring-Summer 2024 season, emphasizing classic elegance. His first menswear collection follows a similar theme.
Entitled “Ancora,” which means “again” in Italian, the first Gucci men’s collection designed by Sabato De Sarno reflects his passion for 1980s Italian fashion and his exploration of Gucci’s DNA.
It’s a story of objects – shiny, tactile, and cold to the touch but warm to the heart and soul. These objects are desirable to collect, not for a museum but to enrich life,” Sabato stated in the Ancora Manifesto.
The Gucci fall/winter 2024 men’s collection features neutral tones mixed with pistachio green, pale pink, and burgundy (or ‘Gucci Rosso,’ the creative director’s “it” color). Leather appears in gloves, bags, trench coats, puffer jackets, and shoes.
