The 2024 Golden Globe Awards promises a glow-up as they emerge from the ashes of controversy and cancellation, now under the management of Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries. With a fresh start and a new home on CBS, the nominations were unveiled by Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama at the Beverly Hilton hotel this Monday (11/12).
Netflix emerges as a powerhouse with 28 nominations, who produced “Maestro,” “The Crown,” and “The Diplomat,” , followed closely by Warner Bros. Among the leading contenders, Greta Gerwig’s feminist phenomenon, “Barbie,” earned an impressive 10 nods, tying for the second most-nominated film in Golden Globes history only behind “Cabaret”, and followed closely by Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” with eight nominations.
The film landscape sees a departure from the conventional as new categories are introduced, acknowledging box office achievements and stand-up comedy performances. Notable mentions include “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” “John Wick: Chapter 4,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” for their box office success, while stand-up specials by Trevor Noah, Amy Schumer, and Ricky Gervais gain recognition.
In the television realm, “Succession” leads with nine nominations for its final season, closely followed by FX’s “The Bear” and Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” with five nods each. The best TV drama category features intense competition with shows like “1923,” “The Crown,” and “The Last of Us” in the running.
As the ceremony approaches on January 7, 2024, anticipation builds for a night that will not only celebrate outstanding achievements in film and television but also mark a turning point for the Golden Globes as it seeks to reinvent itself and reclaim its reputation as a prestigious yet entertaining awards ceremony. The absence of a host leaves room for speculation about who will grace the stage, crack jokes, and contribute to the renewed spirit of the Golden Globe Awards, we will have to wait and see. But one
thing’s for sure, we couldn’t be more excited to see what outfit the celebs will grace the red carpet with!
