Blending Anime, Streetwear, and Satirical Logos: A Bold New Vision.
For designer Dario Mittmann, less doesn’t necessarily mean more. Even before the show began, the introductory video projected on the walls of Iguatemi hinted that SPFW’s newest designer is far from being a minimalist. His world is filled with anime, manga, and gaming references, with overlapping inspirations that, somehow, all make sense together.
The show kicked off with a baggy ensemble, accompanied by a robotic mask that opened up, alongside a mashup of logos, playfully mocking the idea of logomania. Beyond the tech elements, what stood out was the satire of the counterfeit culture boom. Parodies of logos from brands like Adidas, Ecko, and Balenciaga appeared in his creations.
Despite the Japanese influences, like Harajuku girls, the pieces felt distinctly Brazilian streetwear. The rich color palette, cut-out jeans, mix of fabrics and textures, and references to the musical worlds of trap and sertanejo (Mittmann dresses artists like Maiara and Maraisa, Luan Santana, and Luisa Sonza) made for visually striking looks and a cohesive collection.
“Finally, someone brought something new,” commented an Instagram follower about the show. Indeed, Mittmann’s fusion of inspirations broke away from the conventional, offering a fresh take on urban fashion.
Before joining São Paulo Fashion Week’s official calendar, the designer was part of Casa de Criadores, a platform dedicated to Brazilian independent fashion and new talents. In 2019, he debuted on the runway during the first Sou de Algodão contest, where he finished in second place.
DUPE: A Streetwear Parody brought a fresh and authentic perspective to Brazilian fashion. The runway show featured names like Xamã, Duquesa, Vulgo FK, and Ryu The Runner, adding extra flair to the event.
