La La, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, or Po? Can you recall which Teletubby from the beloved 90s program was your favorite?
Whoever it was, you can now put them on your feet thanks to a footwear company that unveiled a collection of boots and heels modeled after the special TV program. A pair of £2,089 Teletubbies boots by the designer Christian Cowan made rounds on the internet
Christian Cowan and Teletubbies, the collection is called “the collab you didn’t know you wanted,”. It plays on campy trends and Y2K aesthetics, fusing the two in a way that pays homage to the program in a nostalgic sense. The neon green pointed-toe boots from the
multi-piece collection, which were modeled after the appearance of Dipsy, one of the adorable primary characters in the show, are a standout. The neon green plush fabric high-heel boots are part of a line for the show’s early viewers, who are now parents. Dipsy’s antennae-covered head sits on top of each boot, with arms spread wide, and the boots are constructed of plush material with zip-up closures. The pair unquestionably makes a statement with their pointy toes and stiletto heels. The boots retail for a staggering $2,500 and are now offered on Christian Cowan’s website.

Cowan, renowned for his energetic and whimsical creations, was inspired to combine the Teletubbies with classic, childish fashion advertisements that covered billboards and magazine pages in the early 1990s when he created the new collection. According to Cowan, It’s a dream come true for him to incorporate his love of design with his childhood fondness for the Teletubbies. “I’m thrilled to introduce this new collection to present the Teletubbies in a fresh light and recognize them for the celebrities they are since the creatures’ wacky, lively personalities complement my design sensibility.”
The release of the new footwear divided fans on social media. Cowan released a carousel of images on Instagram to introduce the boots, writing, “No caption necessary.” The lime green shoes are seen in the first image on a white background, while Andrea from The Devil Wears
Prada, played by Anne Hathaway, is seen wearing them in the second image. Celebrities also participated in the discussion; Paris Hilton admired the shoes, the fashionista commended ‘need’ under the photo.
Clothing in the line includes denim jackets, jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies with screen printing of the characters next to models in a fashion ad with the ’90s feel. The campaign pictures were influenced by the famous photography of Richard Avedon that Cowan enjoyed as a child. Thus, he wanted to imitate Richard Avedon’s shooting technique because he liked that the Teletubbies were the legends and icons of entertainment. Then, as though they were reissuing an old photograph, their autographs were scrawled on the clothing.
Po, the red Teletubbies, is branded on a denim jacket that costs $595, while Laa-Laa, the yellow Teletubbie, is featured on a sweatshirt that costs $395.The collection includes a $195 white T-shirt with the purple character Tinky Winky and a $495 pair of wide-leg trousers with the character Dipsy.
During its original BBC run from 1997 to 2001, “Teletubbies” was a worldwide hit, garnering multiple BAFTAs and two Daytime Emmy nominations.
