The collection is inspired by the connection between the two fashion capitals

“A range of possibilities celebrates the meeting of cultures. It’s a conversation about freedom that gives shape and substance to whatever each woman chooses to be.”

This Monday (15th), Dior presented its Fall 2024 collection in New York City. The runway was set at the Brooklyn Museum, paying tribute to the connection between Paris and New York, two of the biggest fashion capitals.

More than seventy looks were showcased last night. Inspired by Marlene Dietrich, “a charismatic, contrarian actress, attached to Dior, in life and on-screen,” Maria Grazia Chiuri developed a collection that seamlessly matches the iconic Dior silhouette with the enigmatic aura and androgynous charm of Marlene.

“In Christian Dior’s autobiography, the chapter dedicated to his Paris-New York trip opens up a dialogue between the style capitals that Maria Grazia Chiuri highlights in two key prints: the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, which flourish in large format on numerous models,” say the brand notes.

Marlene Dietrich’s controversial adoption of masculine suits sparked controversy, highlighting a woman’s freedom to select her wardrobe, whether it includes a tie or a sleeveless vest. These diverse symbols complement each other, embodying empowerment.

On the runway, we saw tweeds that came straight from a selection of English menswear fabrics, jackets, wide-leg jeans, pencil skirts, and light dresses that recall the ‘40s, revealing a hint of lingerie, highlighting its integral role in the outfit.

Other old-fashioned fabrics like hammered satin and crushed velvet get a modern twist. Some dresses, peeking out from big coats, are made of fancy quilted nylon with special patterns. The sewing designs remind us of jewelry, with stars, flowers, and bees. Even the lace collars are more than just decoration—they’re like puzzle pieces in the clothes. And with knitwear, Maria Grazia Chiuri has showcased a high level of creativity.

The collection arrives in stores and online on Thursday (18).
